Indoor Volleyball
Indoor Volleyball is officially a winter sport where our competitive and representative leagues are played, however is played through the summer months at Primary and Secondary schools level. There are social volleyball leagues that also play throughout the year.

Timings and leagues are sorted below into age groups:

Primary School (Years 0-6) - School Holidays
We offer introductory sessions through the school holidays for this age group. Played on Badminton courts and nets we offer skill training and games

Primary School (Years 7-8) - Terms 1 & 4
We offer a 6 week programme of KiwiVolley (specifcally developed rules) and play on badminton courts with lower nets. Our sessions combine both skill training and games at different locations across the city
​
Our school holiday sessions are also open to Year 7 & 8s
​
Secondary School (Years 9-13) - Can be both Summer & Winter
Indoor volleyball is the 2nd most popular girls sport in New Zealand, and is the 4th most played sport at Secondary School Level. Volleyball's popularity at Secondary School level is growing at 34% over the last 5 years.

Summer
Athletes play for their schools teams in terms 1 and 4 each year. This League is organised by School Sport Canterbury, and a number of Secondary Schools Tournaments are competed for:
South Island Mainland Championships
Canterbury Senior Secondary School Championships
Canterbury Junior Secondary School Championships
New Zealand Secondary School Championships
South Island Secondary Schools Satellite Cup
South Island Junior Secondary School Championships

Winter
During the winter months, Secondary aged athletes can trial for club teams & development squads

Can choose to trial for Canterbury U17 & U19 Representative teams
Canterbury Representative teams
and/or choose to participate in CVA's Development programmes

Club Volleyball (Winter Season)
Club Volleyball has a strong presence here in Christchurch with well established clubs playing throughout the winter (May- September).
Our club teams compete in the Premier league which takes place on a Monday night
A number of our senior club sides compete in the Southern Zone competition, which provide seedings for the NZ club championships (held September/October time).
The Club season finishes with the annual NZ Club Championships

Canterbury Representative Volleyball
Canterbury has a proud history in both Senior and age group competitions at The annual NZ Inter Provincial Tournament. The tournament takes place each year over Kings Birthday weekend in June
Canterbury Representative teams
There are a large number of social volleyball teams that play in our Indoor Social competitions run through across the different locations, catering for our Christchurch City, Selwyn & Waimakiriri communities
