The Relics

The Relics were formed out of what was originally the Chch Teacher's College Volleyball team in 1978.  They played under that banner until the mid 1980’s.  The club moved to training at Shirley Boys’ High and began the formation of the Shirley Volleyball Club, having a transitional year being called ‘Teachers Shirley Oldboys’ or TSOB.

The Shirley club grew in numbers and strength with many fine players filtering in from Shirley Boys and other areas. The original players formed a strong ‘B’ team which continued through the 1990’s to play at NZ champs.  These original players eventually left the Shirley club to continue in it’s own direction and formed The Relics Volleyball club, or just the ‘Relics’ as it is known today.

The Relics play in the Mens A/B grade division and currently have one mens team that have played for some years.  They train every other week outside of the Competitive season and would most certainly win the highest average age on court, amongst all teams in the competition.
